ChatGPT: Let's Enjoy It For a While

Before Microsoft turns it into an ad-riddled mess, let's take a moment to appreciate it.

OpenAI

I think it's pretty much settled already at this point that OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT (oh, and if you're asking yourself "What is ChatGPT?" make sure to head to our website where we go over that very thing), upon selling their tech to Microsoft, has "sold out" what is otherwise an unbelievable opensource piece of tech to a giant corporation that will be looking to rocoup their giant investment in a multitude of ways. As ChatGPT is further monetized, it will doubtless become less and less user-friendly. Indeed, one of the biggest benefits of ChatGPT many users currently tout is its ability to concisely deliver outputs without the endless array of sponsored ads and SEO-packed keyword-heavy drivel, where what you're looking for is barely ascertainable through the buzzwords.

A second, and related, problem is that as ChatGPT becomes further monetized, it will also become further 'corporatized'. And with that, it will become not only subject to the whims and wills of the market (why are the results all of a sudden mentioning brands when I didn't ask for that?), but also most likely the preferences of the political elite, who will doubtless see it as a wonderful method of steering discourse.

None of these debates are new, but ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence tools are excelerating them, because the tools are being adopted so rapidly.

Remember Google?

Remember when Google used to be awesome? Yeah, I do too. You used to actually be able to find stuff. It was great. Nowadays, more and more users are using Reddit or TikTok instead of Google.

Remember when YouTube used to be free and easy? Of course, this was before Adpocalpyspe 1.0 and Adpocalypse 2.0. Back when creators used to be able to make a fair(er) cut from their videos.

All this to say, I think sometimes we don't take the time we should to stop and look around and appreciate the new stuff we have before it gets completely and utterly corrupted by the powers that be. Because right now we truly are in a new era with a lot of this technology. Let's just take the time to enjoy it, have fun with it, and see where it takes us, before it turns into the ad-riddled mess that we all know it will.
